Sympathetic Resonance is the vibrational effect one vibratory body can invoke on another of similar harmonic likeness. In this movement I explored the physical and psychological nature of sympathetic resonance. I worked with composer Zachary Patten who I tasked with composing a piece based on elements of sympathetic resonance.

We met with Michael Thomason at the CU physics department where he demonstrated a series of physical representations of the phenomenon and from that gained a series of ideas for different ways to use sympathetic resonance to create sounds.

Visually we used a Max MSP patch I had built that took 3D scans of people and let you “VJ” them. During Perspectives we accumulated 3D scans of members of the audience that we then used for the visual scans in the piece. We placed a conglomeration of these scans around the space and used the audio to control different effects on the scans.
